About

Why does the earth keep going around the sun and  not fall into it? Why does the apple fall down to the ground and not float away? Why do astronauts float in space? How did life begin? If we evolved from the apes, why are monkeys still around? What is fire? What is electricity? What would the world without electricity look like?

We, at Jigyasa Guru, have endless questions about everything we see around us. We are filled with wonder at the magic of nature and human ingenuity.

We would like to spread this magic around.

We believe that if we can inculcate an insatiable curiosity, a love for scientific method, and a sense of wonder at the magic of science found in nature and everyday objects in the minds of young people, we can make a lifelong difference not only to their lives but to the lives of their families and to their neighborhoods. We believe that if people followed evidence based thinking, there will be far more understanding and far less conflict in the world.

We believe that we can  make the world a better place by igniting the fire of Jigyasa (Hindi for curiosity) in the young minds.

WHAT WE DO

At Jigyasa, we encourage children who have the privilege of getting a good education and working with the best teachers and resources, to share their love for science with the children from the underprivileged sections of the society. You can volunteer here.

HOW IT WORKS

We encourage students studying in Grades 9 to 12 who have a passion for science to volunteer to conduct Jigyasa sessions.

We provide detailed session plans, audio/video resources, presentation slides, worksheets and list of materials to conduct these sessions.  Sessions are planned based on age/grade level of the children. Sessions are currently available in Hindi and English.

Based on the location of the volunteer, we find a suitable NGO/school with existing infrastructure of the classroom space etc. The local children gather daily for studies and/or extra-curricular activities in these centres. Our volunteers meet these children 2-4 times a month for one hour sessions.

We keep moving forward, opening new doors, and doing new things, because we’re curious and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths.
